If you’re want to do something a bit special for your dog over the Christmas holidays then why not try these fabulous cheddar and beef dog treats?  Great fun for you to make and easy enough to get the whole family involved with the added bonus that you’re dogs will love them!  Make them into bone or paw shapes to make the perfect for your dog.

Cheddar Dog Biscuits

Makes 60 small biscuits

 1 cup rolled oats

2 tablespoons of oil

1 cup boiling water

¾ cup of cornmeal

1 tsp chicken or beef stock

1 cup grated cheddar cheese

1 beaten egg

2 cups wholemeal flour

Pre heat oven to 160°C/325°F, Gas Mark 3
Grease some baking sheets.
In a large bowl, combine the oats, oil and boiling water. Let it stand for 10 minutes.

 

Stir in the cornmeal, cheese, egg and bouillon and mix well.

Add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition to form a stiff dough.

Knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes on a floured surface.

Roll out to ½ “ thickness and cut with a shaped cutter – a bone shape is ideal, or make a round biscuit shape and make a dog paw using your thumb print for the large pad and finger print for the small pads above.

Bake for 35-45 minutes.

 

Store in an air-tight container, to be enjoyed by your dog as a yummy treat!
