It all starts with a tiny puppy…
This year around 70 puppies will take their first steps on an exciting journey to become life-changing dogs.
We look for sociable and confident, well-reared pups who like to play with toys but also love interacting with people. We take donations of puppies from breeders but also purchase them. Dogs for Good looks carefully at the parents of our pups. They must have good, below breed average health results outlined by the Kennel Club/British Veterinary Association schemes. We also have a breeding programme of our own. This area of our work is managed by people like Becci, a Dog Supply Coordinator.
Our breeding programme
Our brood bitches and stud dog live with our volunteer Breed Stock Holders and are cared for according to the highest welfare and breeding standards.
Dogs for Good special mums have up to four litters of puppies. The dogs then remain with the family that is caring for them and they enjoy life as a much loved pet dog.
Our future life changing puppies are born at home, living with their volunteer family who look after them for the first eight weeks of their lives.
Dogs for Good has ‘Assured Breeder’ status from the Kennel Club.
Breeds we work with
Our pups are mainly Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Working Cocker Spaniels and their crosses. We choose breeds that love to carry and retrieve. These dog breeds are also known for being willing to work with humans. We’ve found they work really well for our services. Read about the breeds we work with.
