In our recent survey, over half of dog owners in the UK said they are worried their pet will be anxious when they return to work.

During lockdown, we’ve been spending more time than ever with our pets. Dogs especially have been loving having their people at home more and all the extra attention and affection they’ve been getting.

Here’s some guidance from our expert dog trainers for how to get your dog into a new routine and avoid as much anxiety as possible.

Steps:

  1. Get prepared! Always make sure their bed is comfy and the radio is on before you leave them alone.
  2. Fill some Kong toys with their usual kibble. Mix it with some water before filling the Kong and freezing.
  3. Start by practising with them alone while you’re still in the house.
  4. Then try giving them a Kong toy, putting on your coat and leaving for a couple of minutes.
  5. Repeat step 4, increasing the time you are away each time.
  6. When you get home, remember to take off your coat and put down your keys before giving them lots of praise.
