Puppy Socialiser

Help a puppy take their first steps towards changing someone’s life.

Give a puppy the best possible start in life

Help nurture one of our life-changing puppies as they take their first steps towards becoming an assistance or community dog. You’ll care for a puppy from around eight weeks old until they're ready to begin formal training, helping them experience the sights, sounds and routines of everyday life.

You don’t need previous experience – just time, patience and plenty of love to give. We’ll support you with training, visits from our Puppy Coordinators and cover all costs for food and vet care.

You’ll be part of a friendly network of Puppy Socialisers, helping our dogs grow into confident, well-rounded companions who will go on to change lives.

How we socialise our life-changing puppies

Here’s what helps our puppies thrive
  • You have a safe, secure garden where your puppy can play and explore.

  • You’re home often enough to keep them company — no more than two hours alone at first, and up to four hours as they grow.

  • You have no more than two pet dogs in your home.

  • You can drive or have access to transport for puppy classes and visits.

  • You’re keen to learn and practise training techniques, supported by our Puppy Coordinators.

  • You can attend monthly classes and one-to-one visits.

We'll cover all food and vet costs, and can reimburse reasonable, agreed travel expenses linked to your Puppy Socialiser activities. You'll be supported at every stage.

How one event led to years of extraordinary support

Feeling inspired after attending a Dogs for Good Engagement Morning, Ken and Denise made the amazing decision to become volunteer Puppy Socialisers - and their support for our work didn't stop there.
