Volunteer Spotlight: Carol and Christine

Carol And Christine

Why do we volunteer and what do we do?

Christine: I was a puppy socialiser for many years socialising 14 puppies, many of which qualified. Seeing how Sherry, one of our pups, made such a difference to her client’s life encouraged me to spread the word of this amazing charity.

Carol: With a family connection and moving to the area I started out as a fundraising volunteer and soon realised I wanted to become more involved.

Both: We combined our experiences and passion for the charity and became a ‘double act’ to spread the word and raise funds. As volunteer speakers we enjoy giving talks to various groups of people. Sometimes groups contact the charity directly but we also try to source our own talks in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.

What’s the best thing about your role at Dogs for Good?

We really enjoy meeting everyone and giving them an insight into the impact these amazing dogs have by showing a presentation which incorporates short films of the dogs, the clients and telling the real-life stories. We are rewarded by seeing the audiences’ generosity which is boosted even more by the presence of a puppy or trained dog.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering at Dogs for Good?

We both find it so rewarding to share our confidence in the charity as these dogs make such a difference and make life possible by the connection of dogs with individuals and communities. The charity offers a variety of worthwhile volunteering roles to suit your own availability, skills and interest. We love it.
