Community Dog looking for loving home near East Dumbartonshire
Could you be the one?
Could you be the one?
We're sniffing out the perfect home for one of our clever Community Dogs.
We ideally need a dog lover based in Cumbernauld, Lenzie, Moodiesburn, Kirkintilloch or surrounding areas. What makes this such a great opportunity is that the dog is fully trained, will be working three to four days a week and all food and vet bills are covered by us.
"We’re always looking for people who can help us look after our wonderful dogs but this ask is really quite special and exciting and will help us broaden the reach of the important work we’re doing in communities in Scotland," says Úna Race, one of Dogs for Good’s Scotland-based Practitioners.
"Community Dogs are already fully trained, typically work a few days a week with a Practitioner who will pick up and drop off at your home and all costs - food, vet bills etc. - are covered by Dogs for Good. So, this could be the perfect opportunity for you if you love having a dog but are daunted by the thought of training and the costs involved."
Our Community Dogs work with a dedicated Dogs for Good professional like Úna, making everyday life possible for people with complex health and social care needs, often due to disability, dementia, autism or mental ill health. When they’re not working, it’s so important our dogs have a loving home where they can rest, relax and enjoy being a dog and part of the family.
Kirsten Henderson from East Dumbartonshire can vouch that this is a perfect way to have a dog in your life as she already provides a home for one of our Community Dogs, Marcia – who recently made her TV debut on STV working with patients at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
"It’s one of the best things we’ve ever done as a family," says Kirsten. "Marcia is a joy to have around and she makes us so proud with all the work she does out in the community. She’s fitted in so well and when she’s not working, we get the benefit of her as our lovely family dog and we can’t imagine life without her."

Our Community Dog programme helps people overcome specific challenges in all sorts of community settings. Lots of our community activities are created in partnership with specialist services – this could be young people’s mental health, social care for adults who have learning disabilities, or dedicated support for people with dementia.
