Freedom, and a life, reclaimed
Isabelle & Rumba
Thanks to her assistance dog Rumba, Isabelle has overcome the challenges of her disability to live a more independent life and looks forward to a career helping others.
Having Rumba by my side means I don’t need someone with me all the time. Before her, I had to rely on carers or my dad to help me with so many things. Getting dressed, opening doors… just to name a couple.
Rumba gives me privacy – I can close the shower or my bedroom door, knowing that if I fall, Rumba can open the door and fetch help.
I feel incredibly empowered thanks to Rumba. Because of her, I can plan my future, doing things I would never have imagined doing before being partnered with her.
She does absolutely life-changing work for me. It’s made huge differences to the care burden on my parents. I can be a lot more independent. I can do things and they don’t have to worry about me all the time.
I feel incredibly empowered thanks to Rumba. Because of her, I can plan my future after I finish my master’s degree. I’m working towards a career in helping universities become more accessible for students with disabilities, something that has been so important to me.
“I am also hoping to move into my own accommodation, which I would never have imagined doing before being partnered with Rumba.”
