Tiny puppy

We look for sociable and confident, well-reared pups who like to play with toys but also love interacting with people.

It all starts with a tiny puppy...

Our pups are mainly labradors, golden retrievers, working cocker spaniels and their crosses. We choose breeds that love to carry and retrieve. These dog breeds are also known for being willing to work with people and we’ve found they work really well for our services.

Breeding our pups

We're fortunate to be given donations of puppies from breeders, but we also purchase our pups too. And we have a breeding programme of our own, managed by our Dog Supply Team.

With all our puppies, we look carefully at their parents. Our pups' mums and dads must have good, below breed average health results outlined by the British Veterinary Association schemes.

Our breeding programme

The mums of our litters live with our volunteer Breed Stock Holders and are cared for according to the highest welfare and breeding standards.

Our puppy mums have various assessments through their puppyhood to assess their character to make sure they are confident in different environments, sociable, and have qualities which will hopefully be passed onto their pups. They have a maximum of four litters, one year apart between the age of two and six years old. They then remain with the family that is caring for them to enjoy life as a much-loved pet dog.

Our life-changing puppies are born at home, living with their mum and volunteer family who look after them for the first eight weeks of their lives.

Caring for our mums and pups wouldn't be possible without our volunteers

Volunteer Len cares for one of our very special mums. Her future life-changing puppies are born at home and Len, with support from Dogs for Good, helps her look after them for the first eight weeks of their lives.

Could you provide a loving home for one of our litter mums?

Volunteer as a Breed Stock Holder and help raise the next generation of life-changing dogs.
