Dog welfare and wellbeing

The happiness and wellbeing of our dogs is at the heart of our work.

Happy, healthy dogs are essential to everything we do

We have a responsibility to the dogs in our care, the people they support and the communities in which we operate to ensure that our dogs are healthy and enjoy high standards of care and wellbeing. We will never compromise on the welfare of our dogs.

We have clear policies, procedures and standards of practice to uphold the health and wellbeing of our dogs and to ensure their welfare is never compromised. This includes health and veterinary support, physical care, our breeding, socialisation, and training programmes, the placement of dogs, working practices, safety and security, and retirement.

We regularly monitor all of our dogs, making timely interventions where veterinary support or treatment is required and making decisions about our dogs' home and working life based on their individual health and wellbeing needs.

We also play an active role in championing standards of good practice more widely in our relevant fields, sharing best practice to ensure continued learning and improvement.

We are an accredited assistance dog provider and therefore, as a minimum, conform to the standards of practice of Assistance Dogs International (ADI). We are also a founder member of Animal Assisted Services International (AASI) and therefore support and uphold AASI’s global standards of practice.

Could you welcome a dog into your home?

We're so grateful to people like Helen, one of our volunteer Puppy Socialisers, who cares for our growing puppies before they start their training. See Helen caring for and training Dillon - her sixth puppy that she has helped us to socialise!
