Banbury-based charity, Dogs for Good, is putting the final touches in place to its annual, free-to-enter summer Fun Day event at Stoneleigh Park on 16th June.
As ever, the spirit of the event focuses on the powerful human–dog bond and a fun-packed day is promised to all comers – both two and four-legged. Gates are open from 11am until 3pm and there will be plenty to see and do in both indoor and outdoor arenas.
To mark its 30th anniversary, Dogs for Good has this year secured an RAF Flypast which will be a thrilling treat for all attending. The Douglas C-47 Dakota, part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, is a sought-after display aircraft and will be flying overhead at 13.45hrs.
In addition, a packed programme of fun things to do and see ensures that all attending will have a fabulous day out:
Dogs for Good Demonstration – have you ever seen a dog help someone get in or out of bed? Pick up a phone or remote control? Push buttons or pull open doors? Dogs for Good’s dedicated team of talented trainers demonstrate how they direct their clever assistance dogs to do all this and more.
Police Dog Demonstration –West Midlands Police Dog Team never fail to impress and wow the crowd as they set their dogs to hunt down evidence of a crime and restrain fictitious attackers. They’ll also be on the look out for anyone with their paws in the treat jar!
Fun Dog Show – focusing on fun, this is a dog show with a difference. Categories include Cutest Puppy, Most Handsome Dog and Waggiest Tail! To enter, just register your dog with a member of Dogs for Good staff on the day.
Dog Agility and Flyball – just for the thrill of it, bring your dog along and see how he/she fares around the fun-packed course.
Kids Zone –somewhere for the children to let off steam with activities including face-painting, crafting and the wonderful Splats Circus Workshops. What’s not to love?
SportsZone – a firm favourite year after year is the SportsZone where disability sports instructors are on hand to help adults and children try out a range of different activities – whether you have a disability or not.
Falconry Display – Fir Tree Falconry once again bring along a selection of beautiful birds of prey including a Hawk Owl, a Kestrel, a Harris Hawk and an Indian Eagle Owl for an up close and personal experience.
Craft Fair – perfect for a bit of a browse with lots of handmade crafts and goodies for sale.
Dogs for Good relies upon fundraising, donations and volunteers to continue its innovative work exploring the ways dogs can help people with disabilities overcome specific challenges and enrich and improve lives and communities. As such, while the Fun Day is free to attend, the charity suggests a £3.00 donation for car parking and respectfully encourages visitors to give a voluntary donation for activities they take part in.
